The Vision of Ladies Behind A Gun

Ladies Behind A Gun is a vision that has developed over several years through experience and mentorship of others.

It is a dream that I, Angellia Perry, have the honor to make a reality, giving me the ability to share some of what I’ve been given with the shooting community. It’s been a great blessing to be able to provide new experiences for many, women and children alike.

My/our hope is to follow the examples that have been set before us of love and encouragement to those we come in contact with, and to keep spreading the goodness that we have been partakers of ourselves.

A Little Bit Of History

Our Story

Angellia Perry

I have had a passion for teaching outdoor activities, beginning with children, for many years. I led a group of students in Physical Education for several years, then the doors opened for me to expand my reach in many facets with the shooting community.

I was a hunter and an avid outdoorswoman, enjoying it with my family and friends. I began my career reviewing airguns and shooting gear for AirgunWeb.com. Though I enjoyed the opportunities presented to me through my new career, I missed sharing it on a personal level with others.

As a writer for Women’s Outdoor News, I was invited to a Hunt Like A Girl Duck Hunt with Shoot Like A Girl. It would be my first duck hunt ever! The experience was phenomenal, it was what I was missing! This was another piece to my puzzle, a group of ladies who serve, genuinely serve in the outdoor community! I am in no way trying to be Shoot Like A Girl, we all have a circle to reach, they have theirs and I have mine, together we get to share what we love with love! There’s nothing better than that!

What a perfect model for me to follow in my community! I will always be grateful for my experience with those ladies, and hope to pay it forward! I began to incorporate hunts into my career while taking others along for their first experiences. Children on squirrel and deer hunts, then ladies on raccoon, iguana, and bear hunts. During one of the ladies’ hunts one of the attendees commented, “If I didn’t have the right gear, I would never do this again. But because I do, I’m hooked!” Being a vessel that gets to connect ladies to the perfect gear for their next way of life is now a passion! The impact we together can have on even one person matters!

Today we at Ladies Behind A Gun continue to share our opportunities with as many as will receive. Whether on the sponsorship side to present great gear to the ladies for their next adventure, or for the ladies who get the opportunity to present that great gear to those watching. It’s a partnership, a community being built upon for the sake of the individual and the sport!

As much as I wish I had been born into a hunting/shooting family, I was not. The very 1st time I saw a deer hunt on TV, at 10 yrs old, I was hooked. I went on my 1st dog drive when I was 15 and fell in love with the sound of the hounds. I mostly still hunted with friends up until about 15 yrs ago, and then I had the opportunity to be the 1st female member of a dog club in Jacksonboro and acquired my 1st pack of dogs and have been a die hard dog hunter ever since. I learned a lot from others that have done it their whole lives and some were self taught. The outdoors is my favorite place to be, whether it’s with my pack of deer dogs, my coon dog Jolene, on the water, or on my horse. Even if hunting isn’t involved, shooting is something I’ve always enjoyed, and being able to help other women learn about shooting and hunting is something I take pride in.

Events like our ladies coon hunt was such an awesome opportunity. Getting to know and spend time with a group of ladies who enjoy the outdoors as much as myself, is very empowering and something I believe more women should get a chance to experience.

I remember meeting Angie at her old club when I came and visited a while back and we pretty much clicked right off the bat. When she contacted me about being one of the dog handlers for the ladies coon hunt, I thought wow, how cool that a woman, in what’s been mostly considered a “man’s sport” for so long, has the resources to put something like that together and do what she loves for a living. It’s very encouraging to see women strive in an industry made mostly of men and I hope that this endeavor will inspire more women to get out there and do what they love.
